On this tour you will not see examples of stunning Mexican architecture. This is not a fancy town. You won’t find rich cultural history of Mexico like you would see down south.
It is not a destination for “foodies” looking for fabulous Mexican cuisine.
At first glance there is nothing in Agua Prieta for the typical tourist– just a place to get your tourist VISA to go somewhere else.
But for those of you who want to dig a little deeper, Agua Prieta offers a great opportunity to gain real insight into life on the border. It is more than just another artificial tourist town– it is a real city full of real people living on the edge. It is where two great complex culture come together, sometimes colliding, sometimes complementing each other. My job is to you an authentic taste of life on the border!
This what Bill Steen, author, photographer, alternative builder and Sonoran cuisine expert, had to say about his time spent with Keoki:
“Sure you can stumble down main street gawking at the pharmacies, dental clinics and boot shops. Why not let someone who has lived here for almost four decades show you and explain the ‘underbelly’ of this dynamic economy.”
